Leknaat is the self-proclaimed Executor of Balance and the owner of one half of the Gate Rune, the Back Gate Rune. Leknaat was born in the Gate Rune Village; however, Harmonian forces destroyed the Village in SY 70 in pursuit of the rune it hid. However, Leknaat and her clan sister, Windy, managed to carry the rune away before the Imperials could take it, each taking half. Leknaat, her half of the Gate Rune embedded in her chest, fled the area, eventually settling on Magician's Island and becoming a seer for the Scarlet Moon Empire, providing the emperor astrological forecasts. Leknaat, knowing her sister, Windy, would want to take hold of her rune, guarded herself within the Magician's tower for centuries. [edit] During the Island Liberation War
Not content to just lie in wait, however, Leknaat actively visited what would become the Island Nations during the Island Liberation War which lasted from 302 to 307. There she appeared to Lazlo, the leader of the Island forces, several times, teleporting to provide him clues as to what he must do to advance his cause. Most notably, Leknaat appeared to Lazlo during his battle with the Fog Ship Guide on the Fog Ship; there, Leknaat decreed that the Fog Ship Captain should return to the Eternal City and no longer intercede in the affair of the place they were in. After sending him back, she vanished once more, only to appear to Lazlo again following her banishment of the Fog Ship Captain to give him advice on his rune. [edit] Rescuing Luc and the Falenan Civil War
At some time past SY 444, Leknaat went to Harmonia. There, she found and rescued a young boy, Luc. Luc was a clone who had been created by Hikusaak, the founder of Harmonia, in order to house the True Wind Rune. Luc would become Leknaat’s apprentice, learning several of his magical skills from her.
Leknaat would also become involved in the Falenan Civil War in SY 450. Her role in the Falenan Civil War]was limited. She first appeared at the Ceras Lake Castle following the occupation of Doraat by the Loyalist Army. She noted Zerase was there with Freyjadour Falenas and asked her to help the Prince on his quest before vanishing after giving a cryptic message about the three runes of Falena.
She reappeared once again in the Deep Twilight Forest ruins, where the Prince had headed in the hope of increasing the power of his Dawn Rune in order to save Lyon. She let the party know that the visions seen in the Sindar Ruins were visions of the past while noting that encounters with the Sun Rune were in the near future. She refused to answer Zweig's questions, much to his, and Lorelai's, disdain.
Leknaat appeared for the final time in Falena after the defeat of the Sun Rune Incarnation, summoned by Marscal Godwin. She noted that the power of the Dawn and Twilight Runes changed the nature of the Sun Rune from a destructive force to a nurturing force, allowing for the revival of Lyon. [edit] Seer of the Scarlet Moon Empire
Following this, in the year SY 455, Leknaat was visited by Tir McDohl, a member of the Imperial Army who had come to retrieve her astrological forecasts. Leknaat expressed her wish to meet him once more, and received it; following Tir gaining the Soul Eater Rune from Ted and becoming the hesitant leader of the Toran Liberation Army against the Scarlet Moon Empire, Leknaat would visit Tir at his headquarters, this time bringing along a gift, the Tablet of Stars, which would keep track of the Stars of Destiny Tir had recruited, as well as her apprentice Luc, who she ordered to fight for the Liberation Army, much to Luc’s irritation. Near the end of the Toran Liberation War, Leknaat would appear once more at a gathering of the Stars of Destiny; noting that one star, Gremio, was missing. Using her powers of the gate, Leknaat brought Gremio back from death. The crowd awestruck at the sight of their colleague alive and well, Leknaat departed, mentioning she could only use such powerful magic once. Leknaat would even help the Liberation Army defeat her sister, using her side of the Gate Rune to send away the monsters Windy had brought from another dimension; however, she was not strong enough to do this herself, but was helped by Joshua Levenheit. Together, they managed to return the monsters to the world Windy had summoned them from, vastly reducing the forces the Scarlet Moon Empire could call upon for the Battle of Gregminster.
At some time following this, Luc would rescue a young girl, Sarah and bring her to live with himself and Leknaat; there, she, already a powerful mage, learned many magical spells from the two as she grew, such as her ability to summon monsters. [edit] During the Dunan Unification War
Leknaat appeared again in SY 460, appearing to both Riou and Jowy, who would go on to lead the Allied Army and Highland Army, respectively, as they gained their halves of the Rune of Beginning. Leknaat would appear several times more to Riou, the possessor of the Bright Shield Rune. She once more bequeathed a Tablet of Destiny to the Allied forces, as well as her antisocial apprentice, Luc, ordering him to fight on behalf of the Allied Army. She would also appear to both Riou and Jowy once more following their duel at Tenzan Pass as Jowy’s Black Sword Rune and Riou’s Bright Shield Rune healed him, noting that Riou’s spirit and the spirit of the 108 Stars of Destiny had called forth the power fo the True Rune of Beginning to heal Jowy from his wounds. [edit] Betrayal and Redemption
15 years after the Dunan Unification War, Leknaat watched as her former apprentice would betray her. Luc, obsessed with destroying his wind rune – and himself along with it – declared that he would prevent the future vision of the world he saw – an empty world governed by order - from happening. Leknaat threatened to stop him, but her attempt to do so failed; with her incomplete gate rune, she was unable to prevent him from leaving along with Sarah, who had fallen in love with Luc. Leknaat would not go on to appear to the forces rallying against Luc, nor would she bequeath them the Tablet of Stars. Following his defeat and death, however, his soul, along with Sarah’s, would return to Leknaat. Leknaat, unsurprised at their arrival, claimed that as Executor of Balance she had no tears to shed, and berated Luc for disregarding a million lives for his own desire. However, recognizing Luc’s human nature, she forgave him, and said that destiny had allowed him to rest. Addressing her apprentice, who she even called her son, for the last time, she note that the 108 stars would bless him, and that no matter how futile their struggles may have seemed, they all would make a difference.
